Jeremy Charles Robert Clarkson was born on April 11, 1960, in Sprotbrough, then part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, England. He grew up in a family where his parents ran a business selling tea cosies. His parents, Shirley and Edward Clarkson, managed to fund his education at private schools through their successful business ventures, which included creating and licensing Paddington Bear stuffed toys. Jeremy attended Hill House School and later Repton School, a prestigious boarding school in Derbyshire. His time at Repton was difficult; he experienced bullying and was eventually expelled for rebellious behavior such as drinking and smoking.
