Childhood
Rachel Marsden was born on December 2, 1974, in Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada. During her high school years at Terry Fox Secondary School, she earned a bronze Governor General's Academic Medal. She was inspired to pursue journalism by listening to Canadian radio personality Jack Webster.
Marsden graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Simon Fraser University with a minor in French language. While at Simon Fraser University, she became widely known due to a 1997 harassment controversy involving a swimming coach, which brought media attention and university scrutiny. Despite the controversy, Marsden did not regret her involvement but expressed frustration with the university's handling of the situation.
Career
