Childhood
Georges-Louis Bouchez was born on March 23, 1986, in Frameries, Belgium, into a modest family of self-employed parents. He grew up in Colfontaine and Quaregnon, areas known for economic challenges, particularly high unemployment rates. His grandparents were originally from Italy and worked as soldiers and mine workers, contributing to a hardworking family background. Bouchez attended l’École des Cannoniers in Mons for his early education and continued at Collège Saint Stanislas in Mons for his secondary studies, graduating in 2004.
Career
Bouchez pursued higher education in law with a minor in political science at Université Saint-Louis - Bruxelles, earning his degree by 2007. He then completed his master’s in public law at Université libre de Bruxelles. His political career began early; at age 20, he first ran for local office in Mons. He worked as a legal advisor to Didier Reynders, then Minister of Finance. Bouchez was elected as a municipal council member and alderman responsible for finances in Mons. In 2014, he became a member of the Walloon Parliament and the Parliament of the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles. Since 2019, he has served as a Senator. That year, he was also elected president of the Reformist Movement (MR), a leading liberal political party in Belgium. In 2024, he was elected to Belgium’s federal Chamber of Representatives while maintaining his party presidency. Beyond politics, Bouchez serves as chairman of the Royal Francs-Borains football club.
